Men who swapped the American dream for the narco’s nightmare, the bitter nights of women who are dead in life but still search for their children, the footsteps of hit men in the dark of the night, and journalists who risk their lives day after day. This book is a denunciation of the war against drug trafficking and its fracturing effect on Mexico’s economy and political stability, while hurting thousands of innocent people in painful ways. This book cements Javier Valdez’s international reputation, offering a series of stories that not only do they show the inventory of damage but also give insight into how this constant everyday violence is experienced by Mexicans.
