How have the Ten Commandments held up? Are they still an ethical and moral guide for Western society, despite the passage of time and radical changes in lifestyles and customs? Few philosophers are capable of explaining —simply and clearly— the big questions that affect the history of humanity as well as this code of ten divine commandments written on the tablets of the law that Moses brought to his people. Fernando Savater, an agnostic philosopher, analyzes the Ten Commandments with elegant irony, using a 21st-century perspective. He offers readers a modern, global reinterpretation of the primary human taboos and concerns.
